Writing Resources is about teaching writing and about learning to
communicate with our written words.
Writing is communicating and is a
tool to help you share:
your ideas,
thoughts,
concerns
and voice your
opinions
Writing is an essential skill for success in higher
educational pursuits, for future careers and in life.
We must teach
our
children to communicate and to do it well.
When I first began
homeschooling, I was adamant about teaching my child to write. I
remember our first day, of which I am not proud of, because it ended in
tears. I made mistakes on the first day. The main mistake was that I expected too much and
I tried to force something that needed more time to develop.
All I wanted my son to do that day was to copy some words out of a
beginning reading primer. How could that go so wrong?
My
son had attended Kindergarten in a private school; so when I asked him
to copy a few words I expected him to do it without any complications.
Afterall, he was a first grader and by that age he should be able to
write his letters and copy some words. I assigned the task but when he
was finished, I was shocked to discover that he had written the first
word so big that it filled an entire page.
It went downhill from there....
With help from God, the internet, friends and common sense, day 2 went
better.
My
biggest tip for anyone beginning homeschooling is to "Relax."
Take some time to:
figure out where your child is in the process
of learning a subject,
set reasonable expectations and goals and
work towards those goals....not as an absolute
goal but as desired goals.
Don't let set backs become so prominent that it destroys a love of
learning for your child.
Life-long
learning is so important that the concept of enjoying learning needs to
be fostered not destroyed by stress or by preconceived ideas of what
your child needs to know or should know.
Everyone has
weaknesses and strengths and challenges ...discover them, work with or
through them and take it one day at a time.
Homeschool Teacher, Homeschool Mentor is about sharing tips and
strategies with each other. I know you all have some great ideas...why
not take a minute and share your writing resources ideas, tips and
suggestions.
I'd love to hear from you! Sometimes one little helpful tip from
